Modelist 1.8: Multi-level Collections

Collections can now nest inside other collections for a proper hierarchy. Resizable sidebar. Drag folders from Finder onto Watched Folders. Multi-select for groups.

This release brings a proper collection hierarchy to Modelist. Nest collections as deep as you need, tuck smart collections anywhere in the tree, and reorganize everything with the new Move Collection picker.

New features

  • Multi-level Collections: Collections can now be nested inside other collections, giving you a proper hierarchy to organize your library.
    • Nesting: Create sub-collections inside any collection to build a tree structure as deep as you need.
    • Smart Collections as leaves: Smart collections (saved searches) can live inside any collection, but cannot contain children - they're always leaf nodes.
    • Move Collection: A new Move button in the collection action bar opens a tree picker so you can reparent a collection - move it into another collection or back to the top level.
  • Resizable Sidebar: Drag the right edge of the sidebar to resize it to your preferred width.
    • Persistent: Your chosen width is saved and restored when you restart Modelist.
    • Smooth: Drag handle highlights as you resize, with a min of 260px and max of 480px.
  • Drop Folders to Add: Drag a folder from Finder directly onto the Watched Folders section to add it - the dialog opens pre-filled with the path and name.

Improvements

  • Find Source URL: The URL is now shown for review before saving, so you can confirm it looks right.
  • Watched Folders: Drag and drop to reorder your watched folders in the sidebar.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts for Modals: Press Enter to confirm and Escape to cancel in any modal dialog.
  • Multi-select Groups: Groups are now selectable in multi-select mode - they get checkboxes and a selection highlight, show in the selection count, and support bulk actions (add to collection, delete).

Bug fixes

  • Open With: Adding multiple custom applications no longer fails after the first one.
  • Duplicate Finder: Progress UI now correctly restores after navigating away and returning to the Duplicate Finder.
  • Dark Mode: Eliminated the brief white flash when launching the app in dark mode.
