The first public release of Modelist - a desktop app for 3D printing makers to organize, preview, and search a growing library of model files. Available on macOS, Windows, and Linux.
Core features
- Watched Folders: Point Modelist at any folder on your computer to scan and index your 3D model files. Add multiple folders to keep your whole library in one view, with guardrails to steer you away from adding your entire drive root.
- Visual Library: Browse your models as cards with thumbnails and previews. Find what you're looking for at a glance instead of digging through filenames.
- STL Rendering & 3D Preview: Built-in 3D preview for STL files so you can see a model without opening a slicer. Rendering handles files from 1KB up to 50MB.
- 3MF Support: Automatic photo extraction from 3MF files (including Bambu-style embedded previews) and description parsing, so your library shows the model author's own imagery and notes.
- Smart Search: Search across your entire library by name, with a fuzzy-search toggle for when you're not sure of the exact filename.
- File Grouping: Automatic clustering of similar files using Jaro-Winkler similarity - duplicates and variants of the same model cluster neatly instead of cluttering the list.
- File Name Editing: Rename files directly from Modelist without leaving the app.
- Smart File Tracking: Modelist tracks files by inode, so moving a file between folders on disk preserves everything you've added to it - notes, edits, grouping - instead of losing track.
- Makerworld Integration: Pull model metadata and preview images straight from Makerworld source URLs, so your library stays rich with context instead of just filenames.
- Welcome Screen: A proper onboarding flow so new users know how to get started instead of staring at an empty app.
- Auto-Updates: Built-in update system - Modelist keeps itself current in the background.
- Cross-Platform: Native builds for macOS (Intel + Apple Silicon), Windows, and Linux (Debian + AppImage).
- Free Tier: Modelist is free to try with a 50-file library limit; unlock the full library with a license key.
After weeks of testing and beta iteration, 1.0 ships as a polished, cross-platform 3D model library with smart organization, fast search, and built-in previews - the foundation the app grows from here.
